I'm pretty new at this so only heaven knows if the stuff is gonna work...The trip was our (i.e. Jack and I) first one since we left about Nov. 16th 2007. A daytime flight from Austin over to San Diego and up the coast to Oakland so that we could see all the familiar landmarks. Very poignant stuff, you know. Even though it was from 35,000 feet up. It was like visiting a grand old dame of the realm - Lady California.
And the weather - ohhh - the weather. We came from highs of 100 to lows of 80 into highs of 79 to lows of 55. That's human again!!
The family - such a delight - Lynda, Larry, Mary, Nikolai, Luke, Brig, Caitlin, Kai- the dog, and then old friends in the area.....all so exhilirating. Friend Rose Davis' grandson Nick played his bagpipes and guitar for us - what a treat.
And I went back to my favorite donut shop where the donuts are the best in the world. And...I walked on the Iron Horse Trail again....this was just so wonderful....and my long time friend, Joe Herr, walked with me one of the days.

Looks like fun in California!
I just had another dish of elderberry crisp. I am almost existing on the stuff. It tastes good. The tree high elderberry bush is at the intersection of the Iron Horse Trail and Hemme. I am sure Marilyn remembers that location. I think that I am the only one who harvests them.
I got a small spot of elderberry juice on a white sweat shirt. I diluted it quickly. The Indians used elderberry juice as a dye so I must be lucky.
Marilyn, Ruth asked about you a day or so ago
Since Marilyn mentioned my name I would like to add a second post.
Marilyn and I were hiking in Yosemite. (I frequently visit the park to re-charge my mental batteries.) We hiked the Four Mile Trail from the valley floor to Glacier Point. (About 3700 feet elevation change I think) While there we conversed with a couple from Great Britian. They, of course, were not familiar with Yosemite and asked us about the road to Nevada Falls. Nevada Falls can be seen from Glacier Point. (There is no road, but you can hike to it.)
Eventually we announced that we were going back to the valley and headed toward the trailhead. The 'Brits' told us that we were headed in the wrong direction and indicated the direction of the parking lot. We told them that we were going to hike back to the valley. They asked how we got to Glacier Point. Once they found that we had hiked up they wanted a picture of us.
Marilyn pointed out to me that although Brits do a lot of hiking, Yosemite trails are almost vertical while in Great Britain the trails are almost like ripples.
